Summer Knights Newsletter – March/April 2001

Greetings to all Goode Knights, Squires, Friends and Patrons interested in the continuing progress of Summer Knights and Chivalry in Action!  Lord Magnus and Lady Branwyn once again send forth a missive informing the populace of deeds both great and small and Knightly-News concerning the Summer Knights program.  As usual, we extend an invitation to all whom are interested in our program to send us their email address and, for those of you who already receive the newsletter, forward it to others; let others know about Summer Knights!

Italian Renaissance Festival a Great Success for the Summer Knights

Over the course of four days, the Summer Knights had the pleasure of talking to, and performing for, thousands of people at the Italian Renaissance Festival.  Throughout the Festival, the Summer Knights conducted numerous swordsmanship demonstrations and spoke to countless interested people about the most unique summer camp in the country, Summer Knights!  We believe that many people had not heard of our noble and chivalrous program and were genuinely impressed and delighted that such a program exists, not to mention eager to join our band of Knights!  The Master Knights showed all visitors to the festival their Chivalrous nature and their skills at arms, but it didn’t end there!  They spoke to people about a program that they believe is both important and fun, and had a great time doing it.   We are thankful for having had the opportunity to speak to so many, in such a beautiful setting, and we thank all the wonderful people we spoke to for their time and interest.  In addition, we have constructed a section on the Website that has many pictures of the Italian Renaissance Festival; check it out!

The Summer Knights Raffle Winner!

We were very pleased that over 800 people filled out tickets to be entered into the Summer Knights Raffle.  And thus, without further adieu, the winner is…Ryan Earwood.

We have already contacted the lucky winner but, if you did not win, don’t despair!  Did you know that every Knight that attends Summer Knights gets to make their own shield?  That’s right, every Knight makes their own Heraldic design and gets to take home one of the magnificent Summer Knights, handcrafted fighting shields, just one more reason to join!

Summer Knights Add The Ladies of Chivalry!

It has been a long time coming but it was certainly worth the wait.  The Summer Knights has been through its history, peopled entirely by young men.  The simple explanation to this phenomenon is that our primary feeder school has been an all-male school.  This, however, has come to an end!  As mentioned earlier, the Italian Renaissance Festival at Vizcaya was our first major step in bringing about an awareness of our program to the public.  As a consequence, we met with dozens of young ladies that expressed a great desire to become Knights.  We were thrilled that so many young women were interested in our program, particularly Lady Branwyn who has been the only Lady at Summer Knights for five years!  We have already received many emails, phone calls and registrations from young Ladies that are certainly signing up for this year’s program.  Huzzah to the Ladies of Summer Knights!

 Registration is up and running!

Registration is in full swing and, after the success at the Renaissance Festival, it is increasing rapidly; register now to guarantee your space among the Chivalry!  Click here for more information!

Summer Knights Demonstrate at Palmetto Middle School

The Summer Knights demonstrated their Knightly Arts at Palmetto Middle School, Home of the Lancers!  The school had a Medieval Faire at their school on Thursday, March 29 and they invited the Summer Knights as the center of all their festivities!  Lord Magnus, Lord Calum and Lord Hagrid displayed tables of armour and delighted over a thousand young people with tales of history and demonstrations of Knightly prowess.  Summer Knights, and their brand of conveying Chivalry, is the cornerstone of a project prospectus written by Alfred Meneses concerning the need for character education and development.  The project’s main focus was the need for Chivalry in education and in society today, and the Summer Knights were selected as the finest program for making these ideals and values clear in the minds of young people.  This invitation is but one more validation that Summer Knights is a program whose time has come, making leaders for the future, forged on the past.

Summer Knights may include an Adult Knights Training Program

Due to an overwhelming response from adults interested in learning the arts of Knighthood, the Summer Knights may be adding a new program for grown-up Knights!  Our expansion into this new area will depend solely on the response generated from those truly interested in learning Knighthood.  Thus, if you are interested, either email us at admin@summerknights.com or call us at 305-609-6048, and, if we have enough people interested, we’ll put it together.

Summer Knights accepts Lady Visa and Master Card

Did you know, Summer Knights now accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover?  In an effort to make it easier for parents and benefactors to pay for Summer Knights, we have added the convenience and ease of paying by credit card.  So, if the funds just are not available now, you can still get in on the fun and make payments at you own leisure.  It’s just one more way the Summer Knights are making Chivalry available to everyone!

A Thousand Thanks!

It takes a lot of work to put together Summer Knights for one summer (12 full months of seemingly unending work!) and even more work went into our involvement in the Italian Renaissance Festival.  We would like to take a moment to thank all those that helped in making it a reality.  Without their support we never would have made it through.

Special Thanks to:

The Master Knights and their Families: The Bond Clan, The Bravo Clan, The Cifuentes Clan, The Cutliff Clan, The Fresco Clan, The Mur Clan, The Ross Clan and The Schlussler Clan.  Squire Rafael de Ory, Sir Jess Galan and Family, Sir Jose Redondo, Sir Alex Fernendez-Lovo, Emilio Gomez, Gonzo Milian, Sir Peter Concepcion, Manny Santelices, Steven Iglesias, Nick Valverde, Iggy Garcia, Rene, Joe Allen, Kate Alexander, Pat Conradi, The Perdomo-Martell Family, all the volunteers from 12th-grade World Literature and all the students and former Knights that came out to support the Summer Knights!

Until next time M’Lords and M’Ladies.

Yours in Chivalry,

Lord Magnus and Lady Branwyn
