The
Summer Knights Archery Field Trips
The
2006 Archery Field Trip Dates are:
Session One: Friday, June 9th
Session Two: Friday, June 23rd
Each
session of Summer Knights includes a field trip to the magnificent Everglades
Archer’s Club. This is our
opportunity to take our Knight’s on Campaign to test their skills with the
long bow! The following is
information regarding what to expect and what each Knight must have on the day
of the Archery Campaign.
We
will meet at the Miami Elks Lodge (Sunset Drive and SW 103 Avenue) at 8:45am. At
9:00am we will leave, caravan style, to the Everglades
Archery Range. The club is located off of Krome Avenue at SW 264 street
(Bauer Drive).
Directions:
v
Take
Sunset Drive to SW 107 Avenue and turn left.
v
Then
follow SW 107th to Kendall Drive (SW 88 street) and turn right.
v
Then
take Kendall drive to Krome Avenue and head south (left).
v
Take
Krome Avenue south to SW 264 street (Baur Drive) and turn left.
v
Follow
Bauer Drive for about a block; you will see the entrance to the club on the left
hand side.
Our
day at the Everglades Archery Range
will begin at 9:00am and we will stay and shoot until about 2:30pm. We will
return at around 3:00pm. Arrange to pick up your knight between 3:00pm and
4:00pm; please be prompt!
As
lunch is NOT provided on the day of the field trip, please make sure your
Knight has a good lunch for the day. Although
we bring water, the Everglades is furiously hot and thus we highly suggest you
supply your Knight with a small cooler filled with an ample supply of drinks for
themselves; often, Knights bring larger coolers filled with drinks for many
Knights as well. Water bottles and
Gatorade are good choices to keep from dehydrating but soda should be avoided,
as caffeine tends to cause dehydration rather than cure it.
In addition to lunch, caps are a good idea as the sun is usually brutal.
Packing sunscreen and bug repellent is also a good idea.
Each
year we pray for good weather but, in the event of severe rain we will
make all attempts to reschedule the event, but there are no guarantees the
archery club can accommodate us. Thus, as South Florida weather has been known
to be unpredictable, if the rain is patchy and may not be widespread we will
take our chances and drive to Homestead; once again, pray for clear skies!
URGENT!
We are in need of interested (and insured!) drivers to drive to and from the Everglades
Archery Club. Come out, enjoy the day and try your hand at some target
practice. Note: all parents must shoot at least one arrow! We know
you’ll want to shoot some more! If you can commit to driving a few knights to
the Everglades, please check the volunteer driver box on the bottom of the
registration page and return it as soon as possible. Then, show up before 8:45am at the Miami Elks Lodge on the
day of the field trip.
One final note, if you are interested in joining the Everglades Archers Club, you can email them at info@evergladesarchers.comor call the president of the club, John Laudicina at 305-545-5829 for more information. Or, just drop by the club any Wednesday afternoon and meet with all the archers!
